Singer Ellie Goulding has given birth to her first child.

Mother and baby are "both healthy and happy", her husband, Caspar Jopling, said on Instagram. He did not confirm the baby's gender.

The art dealer added that he was "extremely grateful" and asked for privacy.

"I don't ever address the public attention that comes with Ellie's job," he wrote.

"But during this magical and personal moment we would really appreciate being able to enjoy our privacy. Thank you x."

Goulding, 34, revealed she was pregnant in February. They discovered she was expecting on their first wedding anniversary in August, she said, adding that it had been a surprise.

"That was not the plan," she told British Vogue. "The thought of getting pregnant didn't seem like it could be a reality. Becoming pregnant kind of made me feel human.
