Though she may be known for performing at the wedding of the century, 25-year-old British pop singer Ellie Goulding's career has just sparked in the states. This month's Hot Tracks artist releases her latest album, Halcyon, tomorrow, and is currently in the thick of her North American tour. Curious of what she's been listening to across the pond, we asked Goulding to compile a playlist of her favorite songs. Here, she lays out her top five—complete with personal explanations about why she just can't stop listening and a track from a groupthat played at her friend's wedding.

  • “Phone Sex,” by Blood Diamonds, featuring Grimes : “His production is so dreamy, tribal, and unique. Think Drake signed him up to work with him recently. Grimes is a beautiful singer.”

“I Declare a Ceasefire,” by My Latest Novel: "I love this band, mostly because I love singers with a Scottish accent. I think the lyrics are so special. 'Please, put down your guns, lower your weapons . . . I declare a change of heart.' I like that they are still a little secret. Maybe not for long . . . ”

  • “Hypercaine (Nero Remix),” by DJ Fresh: “This is such a good running tune. I always choose something like this as inspiration for the final mile or so. . . . and I am a huge fan of both Fresh and Nero.”

  • “Tessallate," by Alt-J: “I just discovered this band. They sang at my friend's wedding a year ago with just guitars and I didn't put two and two together. The songs are gorgeous and the production is really different and clever. They deserve way more attention.”

“Where Have You Been,” by Rihanna: “Love her, love the production . . . she is a big inspiration to me in many ways. I don't think anyone works harder than her . . . and she just keeps on going!”
