Reds legend Ray Clemence retires from football coaching

Anfield hero set to leave role with The FA as Head of National Teams this month

Liverpool FC legend Ray Clemence has announced his retirement from the England team coaching set up.

The former Anfield goalkeeper, 65, will step down from his role with The FA as Head of National Teams this month.

As a player Clem helped the Reds to three European Cups as well as five domestic title triumphs, an FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup.

Then with Tottenham Hotspur, he went on to add another FA Cup and UEFA Cup to his haul of silverware.

He began his national team coaching career with Glenn Hoddle in 1996 and has worked for every England manager ever since. In recent years, he has taken a wider role helping with the progression of youngsters from u16 level through to the senior team.

Clemence said: "I have been lucky to have had 47 years in this wonderful game, of which 17 of these have been spent at The FA. I have been fortunate to meet and work with some wonderful people at all levels throughout my time here.
